Pastor

Pastor John W. Godfrey Jr. is thankful to be born into a pastor's home. He accepted the Lord as his Savior at the age of five. He attended and graduated from Great Hope Baptist School in Chesapeake, Virginia. After high school, Bro. Godfrey attended Ambassador Baptist College where he received a bachelor's degree in Bible and Pastoral Studies. After his junior year of college, he married Kristin, his childhood sweetheart. He then began working full time at Ambassador Baptist College as the Men's Dormitory Supervisor.

After three years, God moved the Godfrey family to Chesapeake where Bro. Godfrey became a staff member of Great Hope Baptist Church. He had the privilege of being the Youth Pastor and working with his father who was the pastor. During the six years that Pastor Godfrey was in Chesapeake, he attended Tabernacle Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated with a Master of Religious Education degree. God blessed the Godfrey family with six wonderful boys. In 2011 Pastor Godfrey accepted the Pastorate of Immanuel Baptist Church in Clifton Forge, Virginia where he served for 8 1/2 years. On June 24, 2020, Pastor Godfrey accepted the call of Great Hope Baptist Church to be Senior Pastor. It is his desire to have a ministry founded on Biblical preaching and focused on building families. Come and experience what God is doing at Great Hope Baptist Church.
